Inner Melbourne Action Plan 2016-2026

Following a complete review process commencing mid 2014, the five IMAP Councils considered the new Inner Melbourne Action Plan 2016-2026 for approval at their Council meetings during May and June 2016.

The plan has now been adopted by all 5 Councils as of 28 June 2016. A pdf version of the Plan can be downloaded here:

The Action Plan

The Inner Melbourne Action Plan adopted in 2016 has been developed around five main goals to address on simple objective: to continue to improve Inner Melbourne's internationally-renowned liveability whilst responding to the challenges of rapid growth.

Goal 1: A globally significant, strong and diverse economy

Goal 2: A connected transport network that provides real travel choices

Goal 3: Diverse, vibrant, healthy and inclusive communities

Goal 4: Distinctive, high quality neighbourhoods and places

Goal 5: Leadership in achieving environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation.

Twenty outcome statements noted under these goals further identify "where we would like Inner Melbourne to be in ten years time".

These visionary statements helped drive the identification of 27 regional strategies - which make up the detail of the new plan.  The IMAP Councils and others will aim to implement these strategies over the next few years.

IMAP Three year Implementation Plan

In December 2016, the IMAP Implementation Committee adopted the rolling Three Year Implementation Plan which reflects priorities in the new plan.  The first year projects were approved and the following 2 years approved in principle. Refer below for the report:

Steering Groups oversee project briefs

Steering groups and project teams help identify and undertake projects to implement these strategies over time. Proposed projects (or Actions) need to be developed which meet the stated project criteria and propose a business case for funding, prior to approval by the IMAP Implementation Committee.

Four Steering Groups were established in February 2017 to oversee project priorities and work towards achievement of the 5 Goals.
